Adoption Records
Adoption records and access to them differ from state to state. If you are an adoptee or birth parent, you will have to satisfy several sets of requirements before access to any adoption records can be obtained. Your first step to gain access to adoption records will be to determine the state in which you want to obtain information from. The best way might be through and intermediary agency. They will have information on how to go about making the first steps. Intermediaries are approved by the courts to have files released to them upon petition of a birth parent and an adoptee. The intermediary will also search for the other parties involved in the original adoption for purposes of obtaining consent for the release of information. Adoption record information is available on the web as well. There are sites dedicated to particular states, as well support groups who will give you background on their experiences.
