Private Adoption
Private adoptions are adoptions that happen either through non-profit agencies, or through independent families and individuals. If you are seeking a non-profit adoption agency or an adoption attorney, make sure to do some research, since each has their own set of rules, regulations, and costs. These kinds of adoptions are very popular for several reasons. First, more babies are placed through private adoption because they can be faster than more traditional forms of adoption. Further, there are fewer restrictions in private adoption, meaning that older couples and single parents often find this to be a viable alternative. The adopting parent(s) also get to play an active role in the process of adoption, searching for a birth mother or family, and negotiating terms. However private adoption can be a lot of work. All of the legal documentation is your responsibility, or that of your attorney. This can also make for a very expensive form of adoption, since you will be paying these fees in conjunction with the mother’s medical fees . On top of this, there are also many legal fees to consider depending in the state in which you live. And as for the financial responsibility that entails the mother’s needs, you will be liable for those regardless of the outcome of the birth. You will also need to be prepared in case the child has medical difficulties from birth, the child is stillborn, or the mother changes her mind and decides to parent the child. Finally, many private adoptions run into trouble when the adopted parents take the child into their home before they are the legal parents. This means that a remorseful birth mother or family can reclaim the child for a specific period fo time if they so choose.
